PURPOSE

The main role of the Technical Manager is to provide technical support to the clients Managed Fleet. To build strong relationships with the Captains and Chief Engineers and provide support to them as needed. To help resolve technical issues and to assist all yachts in their efforts to maintain the assets to a satisfactory level and ensure safety at sea.

It will be expected that the Technical Manager provide day-to-day technical guidance to the operational fleet, carry out Technical Inspections as per the ARROW SMS and provide/assist with warranty management services.

The position is based in Fort Lauderdale but there will be a requirement for regular international travel, sometimes at short notice to provide for these services to our clients. Short term visits to the Monaco office and MED region could also be requested as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage Key relationships (Chief Engineer, Captain, Crew etc.).

• Manage all technical compliance issues as required by the company SMS (Safety Management System).

• Proactively coordinate the delivery of technical support and technical management services for the managed fleet. Answer technical queries and assist with: resolving technical failures/emergencies and spare part procurement, if requested.

• Assist with initial implementation, or review of existing on-board PMS (Planned Maintenance Systems) if requested.

• Delivering technical support to the Yacht Managers, Accountants and DPAs, as required and if requested.

• Oversea technical yacht compliance in accordance with the Company SMS by reviewing/monitoring Chief Engineer’s monthly reports, defect reports, reportable forms, Chief Engineer’s standing orders, critical equipment lists etc.

• To conduct annual technical inspection as required by the company SMS taking into consideration class and statutory requirements and industry best practice, using the Safety Culture software and ManageMyVessel (MMV).

• Monitor all regulatory requirements on a portfolio of yachts together with the Yacht Manager and DPA.

• Be able to answer all technical company compliance questions as required by the company SMS during company internal audits

• Monitor upcoming technical regulatory requirements and how that will affect the portfolio of manage yachts

• Member of the Emergency Response Team as per the Emergency Response Plan, Participation in the company’s emergency response team in conjunction with drills and in collaboration with the managed fleet.

• Assist Yacht Managers and Accountants within the operational fleet, as required, with the review of operational budgets.

• Review maintenance and technical reports and follow up with the crew or any other third parties as necessary.

• Liaise with classification societies, flag states, shipyards and insurers as required/requested.

• Manage and assist with warranty management services provided to new yachts entering the managed fleet.

• To develop and review refit specifications, manage the refit tender process, review of shipyard contracts, provide recommendations to clients for refit project taking into consideration price, location, experience, quality, and operational requirements etc.

• Manage refits onsite (short term visits) and/or remotely depending on the size and scope of the refit, in accordance with the refit contract and agreed budget.

• Monitor budget and progress reports for smaller refits, attendance at refit planning, and progress meetings as required.

 

IDENTIFY COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITIES

• Identify potential refit projects during Technical Inspections in existing fleet.

• Identify potential additional Technical and Yacht Management services in existing fleet.

• Identify cross-selling opportunities for other compnay services.

• Identify new yachts for the managed fleet and coordinate proposals where appropriate.

• Ensure all existing services are correctly accounted for.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer (commercial) OR Chief Engineer (yachting (Y1) OR experience ashore as a Technical Superintendent, Naval Architect, Class Surveyor, and/or shipyard/refit Project Manager.

• High level understanding of SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW (as applicable to engineering levels); Class rules, IACS unified interpretations, SSC rules, REG Code; common Flag Administration reporting standards.

• Strong project/refit/new build management skills.

• Existing yacht industry experience preferred.

• Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, experience with planned maintenance systems and yacht management software such as ManageMyVessel (MMV) preferred.

• Strong mediation skills and the ability to multitask.
