Job Description

You will play a key role in the design of boats for coastguards, Police, Military and Marine authorities. The role will involve working on projects, as a team, from conception through to manufacturing, testing and delivery.


Key responsibilities


  • Produce engineering designs, 3D models and assemblies using Solidworks software
  • Construction and presentation of engineering drawings of components / metal fabrications (such as tubular frameworks and sheet metal design) and GRP (fibreglass) components.
  • Updates and revisions of constructional drawings and CAD models using Solidworks adhering to ISO 9001/2015.
  • Assessment of vessel structure, components and equipment.
  • Liaise with workforce of boat builders regarding design and engineering of new construction vessels and also used / damaged / in-service vessels.
  • Provide support concerning engineering drawings and construction techniques.
  • Problem solving
  • Record keeping including photographs of build and servicing progress.
  • Quality assessment of running projects and completed vessels. Findings and rectification instructions clearly communicated to workforce.
  • Detailed Writing of Craft Specifications


Desired Attributes


  • Previous experience in the small boat industry is preferable, not essential
  • Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering or any relevant Marine Design Engineering degree.
  • Experienced with Solidworks
  • Knowledge of marine craft and systems preferable, not essential
  • Ability to learn quickly, with a good attention to detail
  • A keen, hands on inquisitive attitude towards all aspects of mechanical engineering
  • Basic computer literacy, Microsoft Office skills are essential
  • Good time management, problem solving skills, communication skills & well organised
  • Capable of taking ownership of a design and making decisions
  • Capable of working within a team and independently
  • Capable of working to deadlines
  • An ability to deliver under pressure with an appetite for success
  • A positive, proactive attitude, self-reliant with a high level of self-motivation
